Communications Manager

The Communications Manager will be responsible for curating impactful content, assisting with monitoring social media platforms, and leveraging digital channels to raise awareness about Reproductive Justice and the experiences of Black womxn and girls. The Integrated Communications Manager will collaborate closely with the communications team to establish a unified messaging approach and foster a robust online presence that enhances engagement and furthers our mission. Additionally, this role will work in tandem with leadership to develop comprehensive and cohesive communication plans that leverage diverse channels to effectively reach our target audience and stakeholders.

Essential Job Functions

Graphic Design and Visual Communication:

  • Create eye-catching visuals, graphics, and illustrations for use on social media platforms, website, email campaigns, and other marketing materials.

  • Design compelling social media posts, stories, banners, and advertisements that resonate with our target audience.

  • Implement consistent brand guidelines across all design elements to maintain a cohesive and professional image.

Social Media Strategy and Management:

  • Collaborator with external communications team to develop and execute social media strategies to increase The Afiya Center's online presence and engagement on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.

  • Create and curate compelling content and copywriting, including graphics, videos, and posts, that align with our brand voice and resonate with our target audience.

  • Monitor social media channels, respond to comments and messages, and foster meaningful conversations with The Afiya Center’s online audience. Tracking public sentiment on specific topics or issues.

Content Creation and Storytelling:

  • Work with the external communications team to craft powerful and impactful stories that highlight The Afiya Center’s work and the experiences of Black womxn.

  • Collaborate with the communications team to write engaging and persuasive copy for social media posts, captions, advertisements, blog posts, newsletters, and press releases that effectively communicate our mission and initiatives to the public.

Communication:

  • Serve as the liaison between The Afiya Center and the external communications team.

  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions, offering creative ideas and solutions to enhance social media presence and engagement. 

  • Design and implement social media strategy to align with business goals.

  • Assist research on current benchmark trends and audience preferences.

  • Set specific objectives and report on ROI.

Event Promotion and Coordination:

  • Coordinate communication efforts for events, workshops, and initiatives to ensure maximum participation and impact.

  • Develop promotional materials, press kits, and invitations to generate interest and attendance.

Advocacy:

  • Identify and develop digital statewide collaborative relationships with cross movement social justice leaders to strengthen the organizational agenda.

  • Create campaigns that will serve to organize community conversations, and trainings for issue driven initiatives 

  • Stay informed about current issues related to The Afiya Center's mission and contribute to advocacy efforts.

  • Capable of multitasking and setting priorities with a strong work ethic; takes the initiative to ensure tasks are completed and deadlines are met.

  • Demonstrated experience in social media content creation, graphic design, and various communication roles.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate in diverse team environments while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Thorough understanding of social media trends, tools, and platforms.

  • Deep comprehension of the unique challenges and opportunities involved in communicating reproductive justice topics.

  • Proven ability to craft compelling narratives and stories that resonate with The Afiya Center's audience.

  • A strong passion for and knowledge of the social and reproductive justice movement.

  • Knowledge and sensitivity to the cultural nuances and experiences of Black womxn and girls.

Additional information about the role:

This position may require occasional travel and weekend commitments. The level of travel and weekend work will vary based on the specific needs and priorities of the organization and may not be a regular occurrence. However, the Communications Manager at our organization may be required to travel to represent the organization at conferences, events, and meetings with stakeholders. Additionally, there may be community events, outreach activities, and special initiatives that necessitate work on weekends to fulfill the responsibilities of the role effectively.
